Frequently Asked Questions

How do I grant HealthKit permissions?
When you first open Health Exporter, the app will ask for permission to read your health data. You can choose exactly which data types to allow. If you accidentally denied access, go to Settings > Health > Health Exporter on your iPhone to manage permissions.
Which health data types can I export?
Health Exporter supports 19 health data types across four categories: Activity (steps, walking distance, active & basal calories, exercise minutes, flights climbed), Heart (resting & walking heart rate, HRV, oxygen saturation, respiratory rate), Body (weight, BMI, body fat, lean body mass), and Other (sleep with stage breakdown, VO2 max, wrist temperature). You select exactly which types to include in each export.
Can I export workout data?
Yes! Health Exporter supports exporting detailed workout data for 68 activity types, including running, cycling, swimming, HIIT, yoga, strength training, hiking, and many more. Each workout export includes activity type, start/end time, duration, statistics (calories, distance, heart rate min/avg/max), and events (pauses, laps). You can filter by specific workout types or export all at once.
What does the sleep export include?
Sleep exports include total sleep duration plus a full stage breakdown: core sleep, deep sleep, REM sleep, and awake time. This gives you a complete picture of your sleep quality, not just total hours.
What format is the exported data in?
All data is exported as standard JSON files with a clean, well-structured format. JSON is widely supported and can be opened by spreadsheet apps, data analysis tools, or processed by scripts and automations. Dates use ISO 8601 format, and all values include their units for clarity.
How do I use Health Exporter with Apple Shortcuts?
Health Exporter provides two Shortcuts actions: "Export Health Data" for health metrics and "Export Workouts" for workout data. You can find them when adding actions in Shortcuts by searching for "Health Exporter". Use them to schedule automatic exports, filter by data type or workout activity, chain with other actions (like saving to iCloud Drive or sending via email), or build fully custom workflows.
What export periods are available?
You can export data for three time periods: Yesterday (1 day), Last 7 Days, or Last 30 Days. The current day is excluded to avoid partial data.
Does the app collect or share my health data?
No. Health Exporter makes zero network requests. Your health data stays on your device at all times. The app reads data from Apple Health only when you initiate an export. No data is sent to any server, and there are no accounts, analytics, or tracking of any kind. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
The app is not showing any data. What should I do?
Make sure you have granted HealthKit permissions for the data types you want to export. Go to Settings > Health > Health Exporter and verify the toggles are enabled. Also ensure that the Apple Health app has data recorded for the selected types and time period. Some data types (like wrist temperature or VO2 max) require an Apple Watch.
